It usually takes me approximately four months to write, edit, layout, produce the cover artwork and publish each of my books. A year has passed since I published my twelfth book, Confronting The Hostile. With a dozen books under my belt, I decided to take my sweet time writing book thirteen, but I’m happy to announce I’ve just finished working on the first draft of The Trouble With Liam. I’m excited by how it’s turned out. My latest book is a dark psychological thriller set in Ireland and Sheffield. It follows the dramatic events in the life of Liam O’Sullivan, an Irishman more attractive on the outside than the inside.
I would have probably published this book by now, but I spent a couple of months helping my best friend, Kathleen Kelly, to publish her first book, called 11. I edited it for her, laid it out for Kindle and paperback, and produced the cover artwork. It’s just received its first five-star review on Amazon and Kath couldn’t be happier. I’m also happy because the publication of 11 means I’ve been able to return to working on my own book.
I’ve already produced two possible artworks for the book cover that I’m reasonably happy with but I might work on a few more before deciding on the final version. As a former graphic designer, I always enjoy working on my book covers. I also love working on all the drafts that follow on from the first, so, with a cheery wave, I’m off to start working on the second draft of The Trouble With Liam.
For the past few weeks, I’ve been working hard editing, designing, and laying out the debut book by my BFF, Kathleen Kelly. It’s called 11. On Tuesday, Kath came to stay at my house so I could show her how to publish 11 on Amazon using Kindle Direct Publishing. After much swearing and laughter, we solved a few technical issues with her laptop and managed to publish 11, her memoir, on 21.8.2018, which, when the numbers in the date are added up, ironically equals 11 11. It’s available on Amazon in Kindle (99p) and paperback (£5.75) https://amzn.to/2LlGNV2
“11 is a true account of Kathleen Kelly’s life and the mysterious phenomena her ordinary life has touched on. Both the ordinary and out of the ordinary experiences were triggered by one event which led her on an extraordinary journey. This story incorporates Kathleen’s memories, including when a mysterious force spoke to her of change. Inside a warehouse in a town in northern England, a trigger activated a chain of phenomenal truths which compelled the author to share her journey with you. 11’s publication date is timed to perfection … 2 + 0 + 1 + 8 = 11.”
I was happy to do all the work on her book for free as I wanted her to feel the elation I feel every time I publish one of my books, especially the first one. But, she surprised and delighted me by giving me some cash and presents as a token of her gratitude. My real reward for my efforts was to see her face light up when she saw her book appear on Amazon for the first time.
Kath and I should each receive the paperback version of 11 tomorrow, and I’ll just have to imagine how thrilled she’ll be to hold her first paperback. My heart is beating faster as I so clearly remember how it felt when the postman popped my first paperback through the letterbox. As I published four books within the space of a day or so, I nearly fainted with delight and over-excitement each time I heard a thud on my doormat. The four books were A Slice of The Seventies, The Lying Scotsman, Straws, and Potholes and Magic Carpets.
Now I’ve finished working on Kath’s book, I can concentrate on writing the final chapters of my psychological thriller. By the end of this year, I should hopefully be experiencing that now familiar bubbling excitement as I hold the paperback edition of The Trouble With Liam, my thirteenth book.
In The Hostile Game, Manchester-based Serena, now eighteen and pregnant, finally discovers the reason why Tile X befriended her seven years before. She doesn’t like what she hears. Mayhem ensues, with a retired Irish police superintendent becoming more involved than perhaps he should have.
The Hostile Game, book 3 of The Hostile series, is an exciting contemporary paranormal crime thriller. It was published on Amazon in Kindle and paperback editions in April 2017.
As with all the other books in the series, an audiobook version, narrated by Alexander Doddy, is available on Audible, Amazon, and iTunes. It can also be enjoyed as a standalone. Book 4, Confronting The Hostile, was published in August 2017, soon followed by The Hostile Series Box Set.
“Joy Mutter delivers another wonderfully offbeat paranormal thriller, mellowed with a delicious dark humour.” “An original premise, using original characters who you will quickly love and hate, and a clever twist at the conclusion.” “Delightfully different.” “A crazy, fascinating journey”. “Compelling, strange, and wonderful”.
